Niko Peros passed away at the age of 3 after battling Fanconi anemia, leukemia, and a brain tumor. A rare form of this rare disease, the D1/BRCA2 gene made Niko exceptionally susceptible to cancer and leukemia at his tender age. Despite their best efforts and that of true experts in the area of Fanconi anemia, nothing could be done to save him as there is no cure and treatments only prolonged his life. Despite their grief, Niko's parents continue to raise awareness and funding for Fanconi anemia research to prevent others from enduring the same pain.
Ken Atkinson, co-founder of KATA,had a mission to find better treatments and a cure for the disease that killed his children, Fanconi anemia. Unfortunately, his life was tragically cut short before he had that opportunity. Now it is up to his daughter, Allison, her close friends Ryan and Emily, and you, our followers and supporters, to take up the torch, raise awareness and funds for those with Fanconi anemia, support this incredible effort, and watch the KATA26.2 team run for THEIR lives!
On November 5th, Allison, Ryan and Emily will run the NYC Marathon - 26.2 miles - to raise funds for Fanconi anemia research. Emily and Ryan are dedicating MILE #16 of their marathon to Niko in memory of his fight against Fanconi anemia. Please consider a tax deductible donation to honor Niko and show your support for those who continue to battle this devastating disease!
The KATArun Team would like to raise $1000 in honor of each FA Fighter before the NYC Marathon on November 5th. Please help achieve this lofty goal with a donation in Niko's memory. Click on the link above! Thank you for your consideration and support.
